HOW TO BUY A ICE HOCKEY STICK DEPENDS ON MATERIAL, SIZE, CURVE AND LIE

Does your slap shot or stick handling need some work?  It might not be your  lack of ability but rather the size, length, curve or even the material of your ice hockey stick that is hindering your ability to develop your puck handling skill further.  Ice hockey sticks are a personal choice but having the correct information can help you determine the kind that is correct for you.

Shafts can be made of wood, which are usually less expensive but are  heavier, stiffer and tend to break more easily than the composite shafts.  Determining the proper stiffness or flex of a shaft depends on the players size and position.  Beginners should have a light stick with medium  flex.  Big strong players should consider a stiff flex.  Forwards should have a light flexible shaft and defense players should go with a heavier, stiffer flexed hockey stick.

Having difficulty controlling the puck can be cause by the oversized or undersized length of your stick.  Your stick length is determined by your body size.  Younger players or even woman should choose a junior stick because the junior stick generally fits a smaller hand better.  Offensive players have shorter sticks than defensixve players. To determine proper length always buy your hockey stick longer than required and cut down the shaft.  Put your skates on and put the toe of the blade on the ground the end of the shaft should reach between your chin and the tip of your nose.

As you can tell it may not be your lack of stick handling skills that are holding your hockey development back but rather the length, flexibility and weight of your hockey stick.  To greatly improve your game make sure you have the correct fitting hockey stick next time you put on the blades.
