JUST THE BASIC HOCKEY RULE
There are many hockey rules and regulations. Gaining knowledge can increase your enjoyment of this amazingly fast paced game.
Hockey rules state that each game be made up of three 20 minute stop time periods. Stop time means that the clock is stopped when the whistle is blown and the play is not in motion. Usually minor or community hockey have 3 shorter periods because of time constraints or age of player.
The very basic hockey rule is whichever team has the most goals at the end of regulation time wins. A goal is determined when an offensive player puts the puck between the goal posts and completely over the goal line. There are exceptions to this rule: the puck must not have been deliberately kicked in or directed in with any part of an offensive player's body. A puck that is deflected in off a referee or linesman is not counted but a goal is counted if the puck is deflected off a defensive player.
