HOCKEY CHECKS, THE GOOD, BAD AND THE DOWN AND OUT NASTY

Hockey checks are an integral part of the game. With hard hitting hockey checks some fans become confuse as to which are "clean" hits and which checks send a hockey player to the penalty box.

When hockey players, coaches, fans and parents talk about back checking they are talking about a player quickly retreating into the defensive zone to protect the hockey net.

Another hockey check is called forechecking in which a player drives hard towards the opponent's net in order to create a scoring opportunity.

Coaches often use the left wing lock hockey check in which the center and right wing go into the other teams defensive zone. This disrupts the other team's ability to develop an offense play because it forces them to pass the puck.

Hard body hockey checks are use for intimidation factors and to wear hockey players out. Some players become nervous when standing in front of the net or going into the hockey rink corners.

Hockey checks whether clean, skating or play making are an integral part of the game. They are taught to players to improve a team's scoring chances and they make the hockey game fast and exciting to watch whether you are a hockey coach, player or just a fan in the stands.
