BECOME A COMPLETE HOCKEY PLAYER BY MASTERING STICKHANDLING AND PUCK CONTROL SKILLS
Many hockey teams today practice systems with little regard in developing a complete hockey player. Drills focus on team work and working the team as a unit without focusing on individual development. Skills like stick handling and puck control become secondary. Complete hockey players choose an ice hockey stick according to their skill level, size and strength. (For resource material on ice hockey stick sizing click here) An expensive stick will not provide magic hands in front of the net. Focus on becoming a complete hockey player by setting time aside each day to hone your skills. Improve stick handling with a V-grip (not a vice grip). Top had controls the movement of a hockey stick while the bottom hand helps with stability and puck control while sliding up and down the shaft. Improve stick handling by cupping the puck in the middle of the blade for a flowing movement. Stand feet shoulder length apart slowly move the puck back and forth. Once a smooth rythm is developed increase the speed and widen the stance. Once this skill is mastered extend arms forward. Keep eyes away from puck. This allows a complete hockey player to be aware of what is happening around him. Developing unbelievable stick handling and puck control skills takes practice and repetition. With dedication a complete hockey player will have an edge in puck and stickhandling skills for optimal performance.
